How to Create a Fresh Fruit Topiary – Five Steps

A fruit platter is something you see served quite often on many occasions, to include potlucks, family gatherings, barbeques, brunches, bridal and baby showers, etc. Pretty much everyone loves fresh fruit, especially when it is warm outside. Fruit is sweet; therefore, it is a great compliment to many savory dishes.

This summer I wanted to do a fun activity with my kids. We’ve created fun topiaries before with sweet treats, but we never built one out of fresh fruit. We thought we would give it a go, and it turned out amazing!

Do something extra special for your next event. Create something inspiring, a crown jewel everyone will remember for days to come.

If you want to create a refreshing fruit topiary like this for your next get-together, all you need are the following items:

  1. FloraCraft CraftFōM Cone 3.8 Inch x 11.9 Inch White – https://amzn.to/4fGqges
  2. Toothpicks
  3. Fresh fruit – I used strawberries, grapes, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries
  4. Cake stand, plate or platter of your choosing
  5. Garnishes – I used fresh flowers (Alstroemeria, Baby’s Breath and petite roses)

How to Construct in Five Easy Steps:

*Step 1 Prep: Prepare your fruit prior to assembly. Meaning, wash, dice, and peel as necessary. This is all dependent upon the type of fruit you choose to use for your topiary.

*Step 2: Construct: Starting from the bottom, poke the toothpicks into the cone and add the pieces of fruit one by one. The key is to keep the pieces of fruit tight together to minimize the space in between. There is no right or wrong way to do this, the pattern is your choice completely. You are the artist. Have fun designing a decadent fruit showpiece.

*Step 3 Embellish: Now that your beautiful fruit topiary is constructed, it is time to make it look even more magical. Embellish your refreshing fruit masterpiece with flowers to create something fit for a king or queen. I placed fresh flowers to fill in the gaps where the cone could be seen underneath. The goal is to make the tower look as though there is nothing is underneath. Have fun with this step. You are the designer, create a beautiful masterpiece.

*Step 4 Final Placement: Once your fruit topiary is completed, place it on a cake stand, platter or tray of your choice.

*Step 5 Admire and Enjoy: Stand back and gaze upon the beautiful splendor you created. It is time to truly enjoy the fruits of your labor, literally. Before your guests start savoring the delicious fruit, be sure to take photos. This work of art deserves to be photographed and remembered.
