How to Create a Beautiful Truffle Tree for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about chocolate, so why not celebrate with something extra chocolatey! This year, instead of the standard heart shaped box of chocolates, I decided to make something truly unique. A chocolate truffle tree! It was simple to make and turned out absolutely amazing.

Maybe this year you try something new as well. If you are hosting a Galentine’s Day brunch, this may be a great opportunity to wow family and friends with a stunning vision of chocolate.

If you want to create a decadent masterpiece like this for Valentine’s Day, all you need are the following items:

  1. Styrofoam Cone – FloraCraft CraftFōM Cone 2.8 Inch x 7.9 Inch White –https://amzn.to/4gyxmQV.
  2. Truffles – I used Lindt Gourmet Truffles – https://amzn.to/4aOSMrN. Approximately 50 truffles are needed for a cone this size.
  3. Cocoa Powder – I used Swiss Miss.
  4. Toothpicks – I recommend using toothpicks that have two-pointed ends.
  5. Cake Stand, Plate or Platter.
  6. Garnishes – I used fresh flowers.

How to Construct:

*Step 1: Spread cocoa powder on a large plate or tray. I recommend using a tray with sides because it can get messy. Roll the Styrofoam cone in the cocoa powder to lightly cover it. Also use your hands to apply the cocoa to the cone. You may need to get the cone slightly damp if the cocoa powder is not sticking.

The purpose of this step is to minimize the appearance of the white Styrofoam under the brown chocolate truffles. It reduces contrast. This step is optional, but I recommend doing it if you use dark brown chocolate.

*Step 2: Starting from the bottom, poke toothpicks into the cone and add a truffle one by one. The key is to keep the truffles tight together to minimize the space in between. Also, work to avoid having the toothpick poke through the truffle. The idea is to make the tree look as if there isn’t base underneath.

Work in a circular pattern around the cone in an upward direction to cover the cone completely with the delicious truffles. Be careful not to eat too many in the process. Ha Ha. Once the base is covered, place a truffle at the top of the cone. Voila! Now a lovely tower has formed!

*Step 3: Now that your beautiful truffle tree is constructed, it is time for the fun part! Adorn your chocolate monument with more beauty! I used fresh flowers to fill in the gaps where the cone beneath could be seen. You may use candy, more chocolate, jewels, bows, or other accessories that strike your fancy. You are the designer here! Have fun with this!

*Step 4: Lastly, place your truffle tree on a cake stand or platter of your choice. Stand back and admire this amazing triumph!

You created something so amazing, that it literally could be served at Marie Antionette’s Galentine’s Day Swaray! Do not forget, this vision of chocolate grandeur must be photographed prior to anyone digging in!
